After perfecting their lesson plan over a decade , and getting over 10,000 satisfied clients up and surfing our team of instructors guarantees your satisfaction.Our shop mission statement is "best price, best customer service" and that carries over to our surf instruction. We will fine tune your lesson to meet your specific needs and skill level.Our staff is skilled and experienced with all skill levels, ages, and special needs clients.We are all current CPR and first aid certified, and have full liability insurance coverage. Patience and experience are what we are known for. Plan on spending at least an hour and a half with our instructors for a private lesson and longer for groups , everyone gets the same individual attention.The same instructors work year round to accommodate your scheduling needs. Call a week in advance or more during the summer for the best scheduling options.just show up in any attire , beach attire recommended , and bring a towel and water bottle and we will take care of the rest.

Surf Lesson FAQ'S
What should I bring ?
A towel , sunglasses , and breach attire are best but not neccessary. If you bring water , we can refill it , or provide you with some.We have changing rooms and a place to rinse off as well. Sunscreen will be provided along with all the equipment needed.
How old does my child need to be ?
I always tell the parents " If your kid is comfortable in the water and can pay reasonable attention to the basic instruction , you will get your moneys worth." We have had sucess with children as young as 4 yrs old. We can pro-rate a special price for young children lasting one hour or less.
What are the beach / surf conditions like?
Your lesson will take place directy behind the surf shop through priveate beach access. We are blessed with a clean, sandy, west facing beach that is perfect for beginner, intermediate and sometimes advanced surfing. It's gentle surf and sandy ocean floor are deemed "the worlds safest beach". The ocean temperature fluctuates from the low 50's to the low 60's. The average Santa Barbara days are sunny and ranging in the mid 70's.
Are you insured?
Yes. We have an extensive insurance policy that covers all of our lessons, parties, camps and rentals. Our insurance meets or exceeds the requirements for all local hotels as well as Boyscouts / Girlscouts of America, the University of California system and other such organizations.
Why are others so expensive?
Other service providers are seasonal and oportunistic. Some use a costly referral service's or need to hire seasonal help. We are family owned and operated. Our instructors work year round and have been fine tuning thier curcirculum for over 10 years.
How long does it take for a lesson?
A one person private for surf or S.U.P. lesson will last approximately 1 and 1/2 hours minimum. Multi-person lessons last longer as we always continue the lessons untill the instruction is complete and the client is satisfied. Plan on continueing using the equipment on our beautiful beach for a couple more hours of practice and fun.
Surf lesson INSTRUCTORS
Rob- Rob has been surfing consistently for 30 years. As well as East and West coast experience Rob has surfed in Hawaii , Indonesia , and Mexico , building his skills. Rob loves teaching , he worked as a E.M.T certified climbing / mountaineering guide for over a decade before instructing surfing. Rob has taught surfing and Stand-Up-Paddle to over 7,000 clients over the last 10 years and has learned valuable information from each one. Erik- Erik grew up on the beaches of Santa Barbara and is one of the most skilled surfers in the area. While living on the North shore of Kauai he worked as surf shop surf instructor teaching an international clientele in challenging surf. Erik has taught thousands of lessons here at A-Frame with great reviews.
Aja- Aja was born and raised on one of Santa Barbara's famed point breaks. He came to the shop through the Santa Barbara Middle School work internship program when we first opened 10 years ago and he never left. Through extensive surf travel around the Pacific, and under the guide of Rob and the A-Frame crew, Aja has developed into one of the best surfer / surf instructors in the area. He has taught thousands of lessons over the past five years with excellent feedback and results.
